When Kristen and Joel chose The Mohicans for their November wedding, they weren’t just picking a venue—they were choosing a place that reflected who they are as a couple. These two bonded over their love for the outdoors, and getting married surrounded by the forest in Glenmont, Ohio felt like the most authentic way to celebrate their love story.
November 22nd was beautifully sunny but brisk, and their guests were greeted with blankets and hand warmers as they gathered for the outdoor ceremony. Kristen and Joel didn’t let the chill stop them from saying their vows beneath the trees, and honestly, the golden hour light that followed was absolutely perfect. We captured portraits by the lake with the forest glowing behind them, and those sunset reflections are some of my favorite images from the entire day.
What made this wedding so special wasn’t just the stunning treehouse venue or the perfect fall weather—it was the intentionality woven into every moment. Before the ceremony, Kristen and Joel read letters to each other while getting ready, then shared a “first touch” and prayed together. Kristen is a sign language interpreter, and sign language interpreters were present at every angle throughout the day, ensuring no one in their community was left out of a single moment. And when the couple walked back down the aisle after saying “I do,” they discovered family members who had surprised them by making the trip—Kristen gasped and cried, and her father embraced them in tears. It was one of those raw, beautiful moments you can’t plan but will never forget.
From the handmade jewelry box Joel created for Kristen to the hiking boots they wore for portraits at the lake, every detail told their story. The reception featured a personal touch I’d never seen before—Kristen’s former employer catered the meal and gave a heartfelt speech about the couple before presenting the food. And in a moment that had everyone reaching for tissues, Kristen dedicated her bouquet to her mom and shared a dance with her on the floor.
